“How can the nothing be described without describing something that is around this nothing?” Georges Perec

How can one create space for the absent through the presence of sound? Christiane Hommelsheim sings and plays on sound objects, and Ralf Haarmann uses electronic and mandoline. With a central interest in loops, they create intertwined acoustic layers. Through the looper all sounds loose their corporality, they resolve within themselves, they appear and disappear, and they become soundfields, and soundshadows. Occasionally  sentences appear out of nowhere, and linger unfinished in the space, like a piece of thought furniture that may develop within the ear of the listener before it retreats back out of focus. Haarmannhommelsheim create poetics of absence, poetics of nothing.

“… like a door without a house – still open.” Inger Christensen from “Alphabet”
